Directions
From the Monterey Airport:
- Exit airport on Olmstead Road
- Take an immediate right onto Garden Road (if you come to a traffic light,
- you've gone too far).
- Take Garden Road about 1 mile to traffic light
- Turn left onto Mark Thomas.
- First traffic light, turn right onto Sloat Avenue (an underpass)
- Turn right at the first entrance into NPS, the 10th St. gate.
- Spanagel Hall is the five-story building visible as you enter.
Cabs are available at the airport and the ride takes less than 10 minutes.
From the San Francisco Bay Area:
- Take Highway 101 south.
- Take Highway 156 west (to the Monterey Peninsula).
- Take Highway 156 about 5 miles.
- Take Highway 1 south for about 14 miles.
- Exit Highway 1 at the Del Monte/Pacific Grove exit.
- You will be on Del Monte Road.
- At the third stoplight, turn left onto Sloat Avenue.
- Take Sloat Avenue to 10th St.
- Turn left into NPS at 10th St.
- Spanagel Hall is the five-story building visible as you enter.
The drive to Monterey from SF takes about 2 hours 15 minutes (approx. 125 miles) when traffic is not too congested. From San Jose, it takes about 1 hour and 35 minutes (approx. 85 miles).
If you miss the Del Monte/Pacific Grove exit:
- Take the next exit labeled "Monterey Exits".
- Get in the far right lane of that exit
- Turn right onto Aguajito Road.
- Turn right immediately onto 10th St. (This constitutes a hairpin turn.)
- Take 10th St. to Sloat.
- Enter NPS at the 10th St. Gate.
- Spanagel Hall is the five-story building visible as you enter
