The goal of CMDC is
to focus research attention on the emerging fields of ubiquitous devices
that communicate by some form of wireless network and the applications that
run on them. This includes devices such as wirelessly enabled desktops,
laptops, palmtops, tablet, and wearable computers, and
wireless network infrastructure such as cellular WANs, wi-fi PANs (Personal Area Networks), and emerging
ultra wide band networks capable of speeds ranging from 1 Mbps (such as
Bluetooth), to ultra wide band networks capable of running in the giga-hertz range. Of particular interest is the
emerging public-switched cellular networks running
3/4G.
