Save Our System
In Save Our System (SOS), players are given an infrastructure system and are asked to play a multi-turn game where components can fail with increasing probability over time. SOS matches real infrastructure operations and uses metrics from the DOD, like the facility condition index, to guide player actions. Playing SOS teaches how to manage time and budget pressure with aging and failing infrastructure.
Tools
Select
The Select Tool allows players to identify features on the map and learn more about their attributes and available actions.
Repair
The Repair Tool allows players to re-enable the function of disrupted arcs and nodes for a slight cost. The condition of the repaired infrastructure is worn, and more prone to failure.
Replace
The Replace Tool allows players to re-enable the function of disrupted arcs and nodes for a greater cost. The condition of the replaced infrastructure is brand new, and less prone to failure than repaired infrastructure.
Maintain
The Maintain Tool allows players to re-enable the function of disrupted arcs and nodes for a minimal cost. Maintained infrastructure retains its same condition for the next turn. However, maintained infrastructure will still fail probabilistically according to the level of degradation experienced before it was maintained.
