Detonation PDU

Size: 960
Description: The detonation or impact of munitions shall be communicated by issuing a Detonation PDU. The Detonation PDU shall contain the following fields:

a) PDU Header - This field shall contain data common to all DIS PDUs. The PDU Header shall be represented by the PDU Header Record (see 5.3.24).
b) Firing Entity Identification - This field shall identify the firing entity. If the detonation is not preceded by a Fire PDU then the Firing Entity Identification shall be NO SPECIFIC ENTITY. This field shall be represented by and Entity Identifier Record (see 5.3.14).
c) Target Entity Identification - This field shall identify the target entity. If the target ID is unknown, this field shall contain the value TARGET ID UNKNOWN. This field shall be represented by an Entity Identifier Record (see 5.3.14).
d) Munition Identification - This field shall specify the entity ID of the fired munition if tracking data is required. A munition ID shall have a value of MUNITION NOT TRACKED if tracking data for the munition is not required. This field shall be represented by an Entity Identifier Record (see 5.3.14).
e) Event Identification - This field shall contain the same data as in the Event Identification field of the Fire PDU that communicated the launch of the munition. If the detonation is not preceded by a corresponding fire event, then the Event Number field of the Event Identifier record shall be zero (e.g., land mines detonation). This field shall be represented by an Event Identifier Record (see 5.3.18).
f) Velocity - This field shall specify the velocity of the munition immediately before detonation/impact. The velocity shall be represented in world coordinates. This field shall be represented by a Linear Velocity Vector Record (see 5.3.33.3).
g) Location in World Coordinate - This field shall specify the location of the detonation in world coordinates. This field shall be represented by a World Coordinates Record (see 5.3.34).
h) Burst Descriptor - This field shall describe the type of munition impacting or detonating, the warhead, the fuse, the quantity, and the rate. This field shall be represented by a Burst Descriptor Record (see 5.3.7).
i) Location in Entity's coordinates - This field shall specify the location of the detonation or impact in the target entity's coordinate system. This information should be used for damage assessment. This field shall be represented by an Entity Coordinate Vector Record (see 5.3.33.1). If the ID of the target is unknown, this field shall contain NO LOCATION.
j) Detonation Result - This field shall specify the result of the detonation. This field shall be represented by an 8-bit enumeration (see Section 5 in EBV-DOC).
k) Number of Articulation Parameters - This field shall specify the number of articulation parameters required for the specification of the presence and state of all relevant articulated or attached parts (see 4.4.3.3.4). This field shall be represented by and 8-bit unsigned integer (see Annex A). The maximum number of Articulated Parameter Records in a Detonation PDU is a function of the maximum PDU size specified in the Standard for Distributed Interactive Simulation - Communication Services and Profiles, and is defined as follows
n(max) = (Max PDU size - 832) / 128
n(max) = 81 for the current communication architecture standard.
{Note: n(max) for an entity is 78, thus the realistic nmax for the Detonation PDU would be 78}

1) Articulation Parameters - This field shall specify the paramenter values for representation of each relevant articulated or attached part (see 4.4.3.3.4). Each articulation shall be represented by an Articulation Parameter Record (see 5.3.5 and Annex A).

The Detonation PDU is represented in Table 35.
