This paper discusses how the logical concept of property inheritance can be extended to statistical properties of things. We identify four kinds of statistical inheritance and discuss their implications. This paper appeared in the AAAI-82, Proceedings of the National Conference, American Association for Artificial Intelligence, Pittsburgh, PA, August 1982, 221-224. The work was performed at Stanford University.
