Overview

My research focuses on explosives, weapons effects, and material response under shock or high strain-rate loading. A particular emphasis in my group has been the use of metal combustion to augment the lethality of traditional explosive ordnance. The metal is typically a specialized case material around the high explosive, or mixed in as an additive. We perform both experimental and theoretical work to understand this process, ranging from lab-scale materials fabrication, computational modeling, all the way to large scale explosives and ballistics testing.
