Distributed Interactive Simulation
DIS-Java-VRML Working Group Charter
The IEEE Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) Protocol is a standardized network protocol
for communicating between entities in distributed simulations.
This group is building public-domain Java software and
establishing recommended practices for using DIS with VRML.
Goals
The immediate objectives for the DIS-Java-VRML WG are:
- Complete a freely available reference Java implementation of the DIS protocol
- Produce a set of recommended practices for mapping between DIS and VRML worlds
- Assorted DIS utilities: record/playback, AWT DIS viewers, etc.
- Math libraries and physics libraries
Timeline
- Partial Implementation of DIS-Java-VRML: VRML Symposium, February 98
- Complete implementation, produce recommended practices document, and
submit design comments for next-generation VRML specification review: December 98
