Learning Systems and Data Mining, CS4315 (3-1)
(improved version of CS3315 which is no longer offered)
A survey of methods by which software can improve its performance over time. In other words, learn from experience. We discuss applications to data mining and tutoring systems.
Prerequisite: CS3000 and one college-level course in programming.
Textbook: Tom Mitchell, Machine Learning, WCB/McGraw-Hill, 1997.
Course Content:
* caching and case-based learning
* decision trees
* conceptual learning based on conceptual differences
* learning in artificial neural networks
* statistics-based learning
* genetic algorithms and simulated annealing
* inferring plans from behavior
