Professor DellDr. Robert F. Dell is Professor of Operations Research (OR) at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) where he has been an active contributor to the department's accomplishments since joining the faculty as an Assistant Professor in 1990. He served as Chairman of the NPS OR Department from 2009 to 2015. Professor Dell has received millions of dollars of research support from every uniformed service for topics ranging from naval capital planning to army base realignment and closure. He has also applied optimization in the private sector in areas ranging from production scheduling to supply chain design. His research appears in many open literature publications. He has deployed twice to combat zones, most recently to Afghanistan in January 2015. His recent awards include the 2014 Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) Koopman Prize, a 2014 Brazilian Navy Tamandaré Merit Medal, The 2013 INFORMS Smith Prize (OR Department Award received while he served as NPS OR Department Chairman), a 2011 Department of the Army Dr. Wilbur B. Payne Award for Excellence in Analysis, a 2011 Department of the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award, the 2008 Military Operations Research Society (MORS) David Rist Prize, and the 2007 MORS Richard H. Barchi Prize.
