Background: Network-centric warfare is rapidly becoming a reality in the Navy driven by the confluence of information technologies and the need for timely accurate and effective information sharing between warfighting elements. There is a growing recognition in the Navy that the commitment and progress seen in building the IT21 network infrastructure must be accompanied by a similar effort to develop the appropriate network based warfare applications in realizing the full military utility offered by the new information technologies. A pioneering first step in USW is to convene a workshop where members of the Fleet, academia, and technology development communities can collectively articulate the understandings and concepts associated with integrating USW into network centric warfare consistent with Joint Vision 2010.
Workshop Objective: Convene the Navy USW community as an initial step to explore and develop common understandings, concepts and applications of USW conducted in an environment of networked sensors, shooters and decision makers consistent with the Navys Joint Vision 2010. The results of the workshop will provide potential inputs for wargame and doctrine development; Fleet Battle Experiment planning; technology development, integration and transition.
